Gerald "Jerry" Marks is an attorney, author, lecturer and former adjunct Professor of Law. His firm, Marks & Klein, LLP, specializes in franchisee‑franchisor matters. A significant portion of the franchise practice is litigation based and devoted to franchisees who are asserting fraud and damage claims against franchisors. The remaining portion of his franchise practice assists companies and individuals seeking to franchise their successful business concepts.For the past 15 years, he has represented hundreds of franchisees including Snap‑On, Mac and Matco tool dealers; GNC, Dunkin Donuts, Subway and Blimpie Sandwich Shop owners; Curves exercise centers; Eyes First/Cole Vision Centers; The Brake Shop and All Tune & Lube Auto Centers; Carvel Ice Cream; 7 ‑ 11 (Southland) Convenience Stores; Denny’s and Pudgies Chicken Restaurants; Villari Karate Centers; Exxon and Shell gasoline station owners; and Money Mailer Coupons. Jerry has written for, been quoted by, and has been interviewed by numerous franchise publications and has also appeared on CNN and CNBC with respect to franchise issues. He is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and the Bar of the States of New York and New Jersey, as well as, the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, New Jersey and the Eastern District of Michigan. He has authored a guidebook on the purchase of a franchise entitled, The Buyer's Guide to Franchising: What You Need to Know About Buying a Franchise, which is an easy-to-read, practical manual for the purchase of any franchise opportunity. He has written several magazine articles outlining trends in franchising which were published in the Franchise Handbook Quarterly. Jerry has lectured on how to expand successful businesses through franchising. He has also appeared on behalf of the U. S. Department of Commerce's Minority Business Development Agency where he advised individuals on how to make the right choice when buying a franchised business and testified before an FTC committee with respect to franchise matters. Jerry graduated from New York Law School where he was the Managing Editor of the Law Review. He has served as an Adjunct Professor of Business Law at Brookdale Community College where he taught a course on corporate law and business organization. He was also an Adjunct Professor of Law at New York Law School and taught Legal Writing and Research. Jerry also serves as Special Counsel to the Attorney General of the State of New Jersey.
